Visiting Winter At Clearwater Marine Aquarium

Visiting Winter At Clearwater Marine Aquarium

Dolphin Tale is a heartfelt story based on a true story about a young dolphin named Winter. She becomes caught in a crab trap and severely damages (and ultimately loses) her tail. Winter was rescued and transported to Clearwater Marine Hospital where compassionate strangers banded together to save her life. Without a tail, Winter’s prognosis was dire. It took the expertise of dedicated marine biologists and the ingenuity of a brilliant prosthetics doctor to save Winter.

Here’s a little movie preview…

Winter serves as a symbol of courage, perseverance, and hope to millions of people who have been touched by her remarkable story of recovery and rehabilitation. My son has a strong connection with this sweet dolphin so recently our family made a weekend trip to Sand Key and visiting the Clearwater Marine Aquarium was at the top of our list!

The aquarium was preparing for the sequel (which is actually taping right now), so the dolphins were moved to an outside tank. The main goal was for them to be comfortable in their new area. We did see the trainers interacting with Winter, Hope & Panama but didn’t get to snap any great photos. Panama recently passed away, so we feel honored to have spent some time visiting with her as well.

Even though Clearwater Marine Aquarium is on the smaller side, it is packed with shows, learning opportunities, and fun experiences. Afterwards, we visited Winter’s Dolphin Tale Adventure. This indoor (air conditioned) experience was a lot of fun, we were able to relive some of our favorite movie memories, see actual props, write “fin mail” to Winter, play games, etc.

What are you waiting for? Start planning your trip! Clearwater Marine Aquarium is about 90 minutes from Orlando and WELL WORTH the drive! Make sure to check out the visitor information since the aquarium currently has limited visiting hours.
