I officially have a Harry Houdini on my hands, buckles and straps are no match for my toddler. At first, we didn’t realize what was going on. My husband accused me of not securing my son in his car seat properly because when we’d arrive at our destination, my son’s arms would be completely out of his straps. This made me second guess myself, did I really forget to buckle the shoulder straps?

That same weekend, we were driving down a busy Orlando highway and suddenly I felt something touching the top of my head. My son’s car seat was still rear facing (my pediatrician recommended keeping him rear facing as close to 2 years as possible). Anyway, my son managed to completely unbuckle his Britax car seat restraints and was standing with the biggest smile on his face. He was proud of his accomplishment and I couldn’t believe my eyes! Needless to say, we immediately turned his car seat front facing so we could monitor his behavior. For the record, my husband strapped him in that time and was quick to apologize for his earlier accusations.

He does the same thing in his high chair. The second he’s placed inside, he will unbuckle the strap and clap his hands. The kid cracks me up! Funny thing is, he has never tried to escape from his crib or stroller yet (I hope I didn’t just jinx myself)!
