UTI-Orlando Campus Promotes Safe Driving in Conjunction with Child Passenger Safety Month

Orlando, Fla. (August 20, 2013) – Universal Technical Institute (UTI) — the leading provider of automotive, diesel, motorcycle and marine technician training — will host a free “Safety First Car & Bike Meet”  in conjunction with Child Passenger Safety Month — which highlights the importance of properly securing all children in appropriate safety seats, booster seats or seat belts. The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at UTI’s Orlando campus, located off Orange Blossom Trail at 2202 W. Taft-Vineland Rd.

Certified technicians and representatives from Safe Kids Orange County Coalition will be on-site that day from 10 a.m. to noon to inspect and install children’s car seats and educate parents about maintaining a safe car seat.  UTI will also provide entertainment and activities for kids to enjoy.

All cars and bikes are welcome at the free event. Orlando’s Jade Car Club is also sponsoring the meet, which features  the Magic Motorsports LLC “World’s Largest Street Legal 4×4 Truck,” experts share racing and driving safety tips along with food, music and fun. Safety vendors include Beat the Heat and Safe Texting Campaign.com.

“Universal Technical Institute understands the importance of safe driving and is committed to training top-notch technicians to inspect, maintain and repair vehicles to help keep drivers and their families safe on the road,” said Steve McElfresh, Orlando campus president at UTI-Orlando. “By partnering with local safety organizations, we’re able to expand that commitment and encourage the community to take an extra step in their child’s well-being through these car seat inspections.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car crashes are the leading cause of death for children up to 12 years of age in the United States. To best protect children in crashes, car seats must be installed properly, but three out of four car seats are not used correctly. Jiggle your child’s car seat; if it moves more than one inch at the base, it needs to be tightened. To ensure it is correctly installed, the NHTSA recommends visiting a child passenger safety technician or attending a car seat check event.

Registration for UTI’s car seat inspection is encouraged, but not needed. To schedule an appointment or for more information, contact 1-888-821-3810 or visit www.uti.edu/Orlando.
