Tips To Limit Or Reduce Exposure To Plastic

When it comes to convenience, accessibility, and affordability, few materials beat plastic. It’s everywhere and has such a wide range of uses, especially in the kitchen. But plastic isn’t without its negative side. There are loads of chemicals that go into the making of plastic, and those chemicals don’t always stay where they are supposed to. Some leach out, and they may leach into our bodies, affecting brain, behavior, and glands in both children and adults. So if there’s no escaping plastic and no stopping the leaching of harmful materials,…

Grab A Free Starter Plant And Winter Park Honey Samples At Green Umbrella

I like to “think” I have a green thumb, but truth be told, I have not been able to grow tomatoes in Florida. Despite many unsuccessful attempts, I still find myself planting seedlings each year with similar disappointing results… too much sun exposure. I have even tried container gardening with hopes of relocating my plants during the day to avoid over exposure, but that still has not proven to be successful. Recently, I learned about a sustainable living showroom in Winter Park called Green Umbrella. They offer a free starter…

Monster Truck Science

While Monster Jam was in Orlando, my 8 year old son had the opportunity to interview drivers. Since the media preview took place on a school day, he took the “Monster Truck Science” angle for science credit. My little reporter spent time with Coty Saucier, driver of Monster Energy. Coty explained the method for getting inside his truck, how his seat is customized to fit only him and discussed safety mechanisms. Coty also shared his love for monster trucks and how when he was little, he’d volunteer in any capacity (even washing tires) to learn everything about monster trucks.…

Have A Colorful Day At Crayola Experience Orlando

We finally made it to Crayola Experience Orlando! My son and I visited over the holidays and spent half a day exploring the 26 one-of-a-kind attractions. Upon entry, we were given souvenir bags containing tokens (to be used at Modeling Madness and/or Wrap It Up). Hang on to the bags, they come in handy for carrying art work and crafts. While we saw several preschool groups and toddlers enjoying the exhibits, my 8 year old didn’t feel too old or out of place. His creative juices were flowing! His favorite exhibit was Color Magic, an…
