Play Room

I know I have mentioned in a previous post that parents of babies need to take advantage of confining toys and play pens, but I just wanted to stress this again. My son is a toddler and trust me when I say he is into everything. I thought it was bad when he crawled everywhere, but now that he is walking it is so much worse. Not only is he fast, but his curiosity level is at an all time high. He likes to grab items off of counters, sort…

Technology and Parenthood

What would parents do without modern technology? When my son was born, my family was able to see him from our hospital room via Skype. If you haven’t used Skype, you are missing out! It is a free internet video conferencing tool that allows you to not only talk to your family, but also see them with the use of a camera. Since we have a MacBook Pro, our camera is already built into our laptop which makes it easy! We are faithful Skype users and my son is able to…

Birth Experience

I am jealous of birth stories when a mom gets to see and hold her baby immediately after delivery. I remember when I was pregnant, I used to imagine what that moment would be like. I would close my eyes and try to picture my newborn son being placed on my chest as the tears of joy ran down my face. Of course, that is not how my birthing experience was at all. My son’s birth was a blur, it happened so quickly that I still shake my head thinking…

Locked Out

A friend updated her Facebook status that she had a freak out moment because she thought she had locked herself and 2 daughters out of their home. This reminded me of a scary experience I had a few years ago. I took my golden retriever for an evening stroll so she could stretch out her legs and get some fresh air. We had a nice walk in our new community and couldn’t wait to get inside and cool off from the Florida heat. I put my key in the door…

One And Done

I find it strange that whenever I mention my son will be an only child, people give me the dirtiest looks and lecture me as to why he should have a little brother or sister. Why do people insist they know what is best for my family? My husband and I decided years ago that we only wanted one child and we were married almost 10 years before our son came along. Also, why is an only child stereotyped as being a spoiled brat, bossy, selfish, lonely, etc.? I can…

The Ultimate Sacrifice

Oh, the sacrifices a mother makes…I gave up my NBA finals tickets so I could be home with my sleeping baby! My original plan was to take him so he could also experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. When reality hit me, I knew he would be completely miserable and freaked out from all the noise. I just couldn’t do that to him or myself! I think this is 100 times worse than the post-pregnancy body he left me with! This is the ultimate sacrifice! I’d have a few…

A Unique Mommy Tattoo

It seems more and more parents (both blue and white collar workers) are getting tattoos as a way to symbolize their love for their children.  TLC has encouraged this phenomenon with the shows Miami Ink and L.A. Ink.  I am not anti-tattoo by any means, but I’m also not one who seeks out pain. I cannot tell a lie, lately I have had thoughts about getting some ink that represents my love for my son. My initial thoughts are to have an artist create a feminine piece with his birth…

Confessions From A SAHM

Below are a few of my confessions as a Stay at Home Mom (SAHM): I am guilty of sometimes placing my son in his Rainforest jumperoo positioned perfectly in front of the television so I can have a few minutes to myself. There have been days when my son was so fussy that I have emailed my husband at work and begged him to trade places with me. These are the days that I remind myself it is 5:00 somewhere and perhaps a glass of wine wouldn’t be a bad…
