Time Capsule

The other day, I installed a WordPress update that crashed my site…7 years of writing had suddenly vanished! Without hesitation, I shut my laptop and took it as a sign, my blogging days were over. In all honesty, I haven’t written in years. Sure, I’ve shared local happenings and various events, but that is not what “The Unemployed Mom” started out as.  If you’ve been around since 2009, you know the history of my blog name. In an instance, I went from wearing suits and managing multi-million dollar resort development projects to being…

Naming Advice For New Moms

Fellow blogger and friend The Suburban Mom is expecting her second little princess. She asked for Mom Blogging advice and I completely missed her submission deadline (I have been preparing my eBay store for the upcoming holiday season and slacked). In the past, I have shared that naming a baby is difficult but here is something all parents-to-be should consider when tossing around names. Keep in mind, I have a boy (and a very busy one at that) so I am thankful I tested this theory before naming him. When deciding on…

15 Tips For Cold Turkey, Boot Camp Style Potty Training

Last week I put the potty training smack down on my kid! I was sick and tired of spending money on diapers and knew my son was capable of using a potty! He was hiding to go #2 and afterwards would climb on top of his diaper changer and yell for me to change him. Those were true signs that he knew exactly what his body was doing, so it was time to teach him to go to the bathroom when he has those feelings. I decided to make him…

Graco Recalls 2 Millions Strollers

If you have a Graco stroller (Quattro Tour and/or MetroLite), pay attention to the latest recall. Apparently, about 2 million strollers are being recalled because of 4 infant deaths. For the official recall notice from Graco (which includes impacted model numbers), click here. The potential problem is entrapment and strangulation to infants younger than a year old when he or she is not harnessed. Apparently, an infant can pass through the opening between the stroller tray and seat bottom, but his/her head and neck can become entrapped by the tray.…

Playground Observations

I may be a little overprotective of my kid, but I don’t think I obsess about it. Where is this coming from? Well, the past couple of times we’ve been to our local playground, I stood back and observed how other parents “watched” their children. Please keep in mind, this is a very busy playground in the middle of a city. On several occasions, I have witnessed adults without children sit down and watch kids playing and it gives me the creeps! I’m not trying to stereotype these individuals, but…

Things I Said I’d Never Do As A Parent

Before having a child of my own, I used to see parents doing things with their little ones and I’d laugh at them. I thought, I’d never do that as a parent. Well, guess what…reality hit and I do some of those exact things! Here are a few that came to mind. Riding on amusement park rides that are entirely too small just to hear my son squeal in delight. Yes, I do believe I saw a couple without children pointing and laughing at me! Staying with the theme of #1,…

Working Moms

The Unemployed Mom blog focuses on the life of a Stay At Home Mom (SAHM), but I wanted to take a moment and talk about working moms. For 8 weeks of my son’s life (weeks 12 – 20), I worked full-time while he went to daycare. Not only was that tough mentally because complete strangers took care of my infant, but it was physically draining too since I was a nursing mom. After a long day at the office, it was time to take care of the household duties (cooking,…

What Does A SAHM Do?

I find it amusing that some people think a Stay At Home Mom (SAHM) does nothing all day long. While we may not have a written job description, we do have a very important obligation which is taking care of our children. My blog title “The Unemployed Mom” is a complete oxymoron, which is typically why I receive laughs when people hear it. Anyway, I wanted to share a few thoughts about being a SAHM and let people know more about what we do. Being a SAHM doesn’t start at…
