Regrow Romaine Lettuce Hearts Indoors

Regrow Romaine Lettuce Hearts Indoors

Salads are consumed daily in my house, which means I am constantly purchasing lettuce or picking leaves from my garden. I am here to let you in on a little secret…you can regrow Romaine lettuce hearts indoors! Seriously, stop discarding the bottoms and instead, place in fresh water. Within a few days, you’ll see new lettuce. I have been watching my lettuce regrow for 3 weeks now… it works!

Day 1 Romaine Lettuce

After picking the lettuce you will be using, place the Romaine bottom in a bowl of water. I added fresh water daily and started seeing new growth in just a few days! You’ll eventually have enough so you can harvest again.

Here’s what my Romaine heart looks like 3 weeks later:

If you look closely, you will also see roots have formed! Below is a close-up! I’m thinking about planting to see if I can grow it outdoors.

RomaineLettuceRootsThe bowl below contains 4 Romaine hearts that I am regrowing! I “should” be able to pick the leaves and continue the regrowth process.

I have also been told you can follow the same process for regrowing leeks, onions, celery, garlic, carrot tops, potatoes and ginger. I cannot wait to test those!
