Giving back to the community is something I am extremely passionate about. Ever since my son was a toddler, I have included him in charity efforts. We have been involved with A Gift For Teaching, Coalition For The Homeless, Nathaniel’s Hope, Cure Search for Children’s Cancer, SPCA of Central Florida and many other deserving campaigns and organizations.
While donating is something he enjoys, we’ve been looking for a place he can volunteer. Last night, we attended Family Night at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
There are many volunteer opportunities, but Family Night is specifically for families with children ages 5 – 9 and usually takes place every other month. There were several other families and groups in attendance. You can see the entire volunteer calendar and sign up here.
Prior to working, we watched a short video “Meet Kate” that helps children understand what Second Harvest Food Bank does for our community.
Afterwards, we entered the warehouse and discovered we’d be bagging potatoes. It was a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed the experience.
We filled 7 enormous bins with bagged potatoes. That will feed a LOT of families!
My little guy loved volunteering and asked when we could help Second Harvest Food Bank again. We are signed up for the next Family Night! I encourage you to get involved and help feed hope now!
