I am a work at home mom who is always on the go, so dressing stylish isn’t at the top of my agenda. In my previous life (when I had a professional career) my closet was busting at the seams with clothes, shoes and purses! But, now that I work from home, my style has suffered.
Thankfully, Kohl’s is helping out this Spring with their amazing Grand Opening Sale! I am a LC (Lauren Conrad) fan and recently discovered her clothing line at Kohl’s while shopping for deserving families over the holidays (for a reminder, click here). During that shopping trip, I was amazed to see all the beautiful, name brand clothing Kohl’s carries for such low prices! From Levi’s, Dana Buchman, Chaps, Apt 9 and Vera Wang they have a huge variety to spruce up my closet!
Typically, I wear workout gear and a pony tail when dropping my son off at his school. Many moms are dressed professionally since they go to the office afterwards. I am complete opposite, I drop him off then hit the pavement for a run. I am cleaned up when I pick him up, but typically wearing jeans (my favorite piece of clothing) and a t-shirt!
I looked in my closet and wanted to find one item that “inspired” me to build a Spring outfit around it. I lost a lot of weight last year so my closet is bare! I donated my larger clothing and haven’t really replaced my wardrobe. But, I did manage to find one favorite item (other than my Levi’s jeans and a t-shirt) that I’d like to build a new Spring look around!
I love this white sleeveless blouse, the only problem is I bought it without trying it on. Once I was home, I realized it’s enormous! I thought it was a classic piece that would look nice with a pencil skirt, capris, jeans or shorts and cute shoes! Also, I would add a chunky turquoise necklace and earrings for a splash of color. But, it’s way too big so I need some new Spring options!
Before heading to my local Kohl’s, I checked out their website. I knew before entering the store, that I would be there for awhile because I really wanted to check out all the styles and purchase clothing I was comfortable in.
I entered Kohl’s and there were sale signs everywhere. You would have thought the entire store was on clearance, but instead it was their Grand Opening Sale. Plus, on top of THOSE bargains, shoppers save an extra 30%, 20% or 15% March 6 – 13 just by using their Kohl’s card!
I took my time narrowing down a classic look that I loved (inspired by the white sleeveless blouse photoed above). I preferred clothing that I could mix and match to make various outfits. I saw some adorable dresses, but truth be told I have two Spring dresses I bought last year that STILL have tags on them. So, despite how adorable the Kohl’s dress selection is, I decided to pass and go for everyday clothing.
I also loved the colorful clothing Kohl’s offered! I typically wear black and white, so I tried my best to chose pieces with color. Here are a few displays and items that caught my eye.
After several visits to the fitting room (kudos to my son for being such a trooper), I found a few Spring outfits that fit well and looked nice. I made myself put back the Levi’s denim capris and a few solid tees because they were too predictable for me. While I did buy several plain items, I added color with a fun bright aqua cardigan and a floral draping tee. My son literally said “mommy, that shirt looks so pretty on you”. I think he was even shocked I was wearing floral!
I decided on two outfits and a colorful cardigan, all inspired by the white blouse. While none of the new clothes have ruffles, they are all classic pieces that can be mixed and matched for a variety of outfits! Afterwards, I hit the jewelry section and found a beautiful pair of Lauren Conrad earrings. I wanted to grab a necklace too, but at that point my son was over our shopping trip (the battery on my ipad died so he was ready to go home).
I purchased the following:
- Apt. 9 Solid Shirred Cardigan (bright aqua)
- Apt 9 Floral Drapeneck Tee (various colors…blue, yellow, aqua, silver and white)
- Chaps Slubbed Henley (white)
- Lee Skimmer Pants (vintage navy)
- Lee Bermuda Shorts (alabastar)
- LC Lauren Conrad Earrings (silver and light green)
My purchases totalled $106, I SAVED $112.89 AND I earned $20 in Kohl’s cash! Everyone gets $10 Kohl’s cash for every $50 spent (earn Kohl’s cash March 6-10. The coupon is then redeemable March 11-30).
I also have my eyes on these shoes, and may use my Kohl’s cash to purchase next week! Check out the sale tag, I love how Kohl’s takes the guess work out of prices! The entire store has electronic displays indicating the actual prices (so shoppers can focus on shopping and not calculating discounts)!
