eBay Tip: Refund Buyers If Actual Shipping Costs Are Lower

I use Priority Mail flat rate envelopes and boxes for the majority of my eBay shipping needs (domestic and international). In situations where I think the pricing will be lower by using an alternative Priority box, I take that route to save money.

As a seller, sometimes I “guess” what I think shipping costs will be for larger items…but I never make my buyer pay extra. If the actual shipping price is lower, I issue the difference back via PayPal.

Never make your customers feel you are taking advantage of them. Nothing infuriates me more than being overcharged for shipping! If I was incorrect with my guestimate and shipping costs are more, then I eat the costs.

  1. Your honesty is great. I know I use not only ebay but etsy and often hate that I know I am overpaying for shipping. I know if I was refunded I would be more likely to return as a customer.

  2. Thank you. I know a lot of my customers are blown away to receive a shipping refund. I know that it is the right thing to do, and if I was a buyer I’d totally appreciate it. I also believe in karma, I treat people the way I expect to be treated and then the wold treats me nicely. 🙂
