Weekend Ritual: Yard Sales

I love bargains! There is nothing like waking up early on a Saturday morning and driving around looking for yard sale signs (complete with a Starbucks venti coffee of course)! I even have my toddler excited about going, we always talk about what I will be on the look out for (this weekend it was pirate gear since he is crazy about Jake and the Neverland Pirates)!

We went off our usual trail this weekend and drove through a neighborhood that we love. As we were admiring the gorgeous homes situated around a lake, we noticed a garage sale. I jumped out and instantly fell in love. I spotted an antique table that just called out to me, I knew I had to have it!  While some may think it needs to be cleaned up and just looks old, I think it has so much character! If this table could talk, the stories it would tell! It has square nails, so I know it is quite old. The owner was the sweetest lady and it was difficult for her to part with it. She told me her story about buying it in Georgia and driving it home on the roof of her car. She also had a few other items that would look perfect in our downtown bungalow since we like to mix modern and old.

We loaded everything into our car (that was interesting) and slowly drove over the brick streets praying our table would be safe since it was tied in our trunk. Thankfully, it arrived safely and is just as beautiful as it was when I spotted it at the yard sale.

There were a few other sales in that neighborhood and I also purchased an antique picnic basket that can hold two bottles of wine. The basket is hand weaved by a basket company in Vermont and I LOVE it!

Here are photos of our garage sale treasures!

All in all, it was an incredible weekend of yard sales. Of course not all yard sale adventures are this successful, many times we come home empty handed. But, it’s weekends like this that make me eager to keep looking!

Do you enjoy going to yard sales? What is the best yard purchase you have ever made?
