eBay Best Offer

The best offer feature “gives eBay buyers and sellers a quick, easy, and safe way to negotiate prices online” . I have used this feature to buy merchandise and have mixed emotions about it.

My advice for best offer is DO NOT insult the seller with a low ball offer because you will not receive a counter or any type of response. As a seller, I personally do not use this feature but still receive emails from potential buyers. For example, a few days ago I received two messages from someone interested in purchasing two shirts I currently have listed. The offers were for 50% less than my asking prices and they also want free shipping. Instead of responding emotionally, I cooled off then replied “Thank you for your interest but I do not accept best offers for my auctions. If you are interested, my Buy It Now price is already set”.

Also, before making a best offer please keep this in mind. In order to sell on eBay, there are many seller fees involved (listing fees, final value fees, PayPal fees, etc.). A seller must factor those costs when determining their profit margin. With that said, sellers cannot give merchandise away at cost. Like any business, the goal is to make a profit. I personally sell my items well below retail price. I make a profit and the buyer scores designer merchandise for a bargain. It’s a win-win situation which is why best offers do not interest me.
