30 Days

I have been hearing hype about Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred so I decided to see what it’s all about. I didn’t recognize her name initially, but then saw her photo and knew exactly who she was. Remember the tough, drill sergeant trainer and coach from the show The Biggest Loser? Well, that is Jillian! The program claims it will help you lose up to 20 pounds in 30 days so I am anxious to see what happens. What do I have to lose except the rest of my unwanted baby weight?

Instead of following her diet program, I have decided to couple the 30 Day Shred system with Weight Watchers. Since I have had success in the past with Weight Watchers online, I am very comfortable with this choice. My diet basically consists of lean proteins, minimal fat intake, whole wheat and multi grain everything, tons of fruits and vegetables, and gallons of water.

I found the Shred videos on YouTube (I am a very impatient person and couldn’t wait for my order to arrive from Amazon). YouTube has each of the lessons broken down into 3 segments. The only other items required for the program is a mat and light dumbbells. I do not have dumbbells, so I have been improvising with cans of soup.

The idea behind the program is to use the videos consecutively for 30 days. Each workout is approximately 20 minutes of circuit training (strength, cardio and abs) with minimal breaks in between each set. There are 3 levels which get progressively more difficult.

Wish me luck! I think I can stick with a 20 minute workout for 30 consecutive days. I will not lie, it has only been 3 days and I am already feeling sore in my shoulders, thighs, stomach and badonkadonk! Since I really want to attack my weight loss this time, I am also walking and taking every opportunity to burn extra calories throughout the day. I DO NOT expect to lose 20 pounds in one month, I know that is unrealistic. But, I’ll be happy just toning and the videos seems to be working in that direction already.

I am not comfortable posting my starting weight and measurements, but I promise to share my results at the end of 30 days. Trust me when I tell you, I track everything!

Have you heard success stories about the 30 Day Shred? Who wants to join me in this challenge? Let’s make exercise part of our daily routines (it only takes 21 days to form a habit)!

  1. I don’t know about the Shred, but I’ve done other work outs that she is involved in, and she is insane! ‘
I’m not at a point know where I can commit to getting in shape (or anything else that involves hard work, discipline, and, well…a commitment!). But, I wish you luck and I’ll check in to see how you’re doing!

Honestly, I haven’t heard about the 30 day Shred, but it certainly sounds interesting and I’ll be anxious to hear your feedback about the program. I’ve been pretty committed to Leslie Sansone and her “Walk Away the Pounds” DVDs. I have gradually, over time, gone from her 1 mile workout, to the one I am currently doing now (and have been for several months) which is the “Walk Slim – Walk Fast – 4 miles” which incorporates interval training into her normal routine. I LOVE it, and do it just about every other day. About a month ago, I decided to alternate, between that one and another called “Kenpo X” which is part of the P90-X program. My hubby bought it sometime last year, but my son and I are the only ones that have actually used it. It’s basically a kickboxing DVD and it’s great… what a sweat-fest. Another helpful tool I have been using is an application on my IPod Touch called “Lose it!”. If you don’t have an IPod Touch, then log on to Livestrong.com (http://www.livestrong.com/) and create a profile under The Daily Plate. This will help you track your food intake, tell you how many calories you should eat to reach your goal, allows you to enter in your exercise activity which you either eat or apply towards weight loss, etc. This really keeps me in line and gives me the motivation to work out (especially when I see that I don’t have many calories left to eat in a given day. Try it!!! Between the exercise and tracking what I eat, although I am not as concerned about the numbers on the scale I’ve lost 8 pounds, but I am noticing it more in the way my clothes are fitting. Remeber, a pound of fat weighs differently than a pound of muscle on your body. Good luck!!
